Brisbane Water Brass

Brisbane Water Brass - Training Band

The Training Band meets on Tuesdays at 7.30 pm under the direction of Bernard Leonard, assisted by Tony Brewer. Other members of the band also assist Bernard with individual tuition.

Background

Brisbane Water Brass Band and the Rotary Club of Kariong/Somersby have joined forces to provide training opportunities for young and emerging musicians.

The Rotary club has donated time at their premises, Phillip House 21 Old Mount Penang Road Kariong, to enable us to form a training band.

The development of a training band has been a goal for Brisbane Water Brass since our formation over three years ago, and now that Rotary have provided the use of their hall at Kariong, we can fulfil those plans.

The training band is primarily aimed at developing young musicians but we would also like to have applications from older musos who are getting back into it. The coast is a haven for retired people and we are sure that there are many brass musicians out there who would like to start playing again.

The band is really three bands in one group. Our goal for the training band is to get musicians ready to participate in our performance band as soon as they are able, and to move them into our contest band when they reach the standard required. This progressive format is designed to encourage musicians to reach performance standard as soon as possible so that they can feel the buzz of playing in a good band in front of a live audience.
